Struggling at Work Due to Hearing Loss? Access to Work Can Help!

If hearing challenges are impacting your job or job search in the UK, Access to Work is a vital government grant that can provide support. This scheme helps people with disabilities, including hearing loss, thrive in their careers.

What is Access to Work?

It's a grant from the DWP, not a benefit, designed to fund practical support. This can include:

  • Specialist Hearing Aids: Often more advanced than NHS options, ideal for demanding work environments.

  • Assistive Listening Devices: Like remote microphones for clearer hearing in meetings.

  • Amplified Phones/Headsets: To improve communication.

  • Communication Support: Interpreters or note-takers.

Are You Eligible?

You can apply if you're 16+, have a hearing condition affecting your work, and are in paid work, starting a new job, self-employed, or have an interview. You live and work in England, Scotland, or Wales.

How to Apply:

  1. Talk to your employer about reasonable adjustments.

  2. Apply online or by phone (you, the individual, must apply).

  3. An advisor will assess your needs and may arrange a workplace assessment.

  4. Receive a grant offer to cover approved costs.

Don't Let Hearing Loss Hold You Back!

Access to Work is a powerful tool to ensure your career isn't limited by your hearing.
